06 Feb Creative Ways To Take Your Walk Inside
If it feels like you have been stuck in the cold of winter for months, it is because you have. I live in a warmer climate now, but I remember how brutal this time of year was when I was growing up in the Midwest USA. It starts to feel like it may be winter forever, right?
Eventually you will be able to run around outside, but if you are currently trying to figure out how to get your steps in while you are confined to the indoors – let me help.
Treadmills can be boring, but they don’t have to be! I actually love walking on an incline on the treadmill. It is like hiking, but you never have to risk falling down a mountain. I’ve shared several treadmill workouts with my MFit Members, but if you are not a Member and looking for something to do, try some of these Self-approved routines. If you still find walking on the treadmill boring, watch your favorite television show or talk to a friend while you walk!
If you don’t have a treadmill or access to a gym with one, find an indoor track. Many colleges have indoor tracks that are open to the public when not being used by the school sports teams. You can put on some headphones and listen to an audio book or podcast while you walk in circles.
When the weather is too miserable to leave the house, call your mom. Or call someone you can talk to for a long time. Then you pace around your house while you chat. I have gotten lots of steps in this way, and I live in a small apartment!
You can also get steps in at work. Chances are if you work in an office, there is a hallway somewhere that you can do some laps in. If you work in a tall building, skip the elevator and take the stairs. You can also park further away to get some extra steps coming and going from the office.
The mall and the grocery store are also good places to go to rack in the steps. Window shop or buy a thing or two… just make sure you walk by everything!
